Bill 148 – recent Ontario legislation significantly impacting the Employment Standards Act, 2000, the Labour Relations Act, 1995 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act - received Royal Assent on November 27, 2017. Some of the new employer obligations found in Bill 148 have already come into effect while many more will be coming into effect January 1, 2018.
This presentation will be an informative session to find out what new obligations employers have (and will have) under the amendments including: increases to minimum wage, new and enhanced leaves of absence, paid leaves of absence, increased vacation obligations, new equal pay provisions as well as a prohibition on employee misclassification.
We will also discuss new procedural and substantive changes under the Labour Relations Act, 1995, also effective January 1, 2018, including changes to remedial certification rules, new employee list disclosure requirements and more. Finally, we will briefly update you on upcoming Workplace Safety and Insurance Act changes for claims of chronic mental stress, also effective January 1, 2018, and an Occupational Health and Safety Act ban on high heel dress codes in the workplace.
This webinar will be of interest to employers with Ontario employees or independent contractors.
