LOS ANGELES (December 5, 2011) – Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the nation’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, has added Rebecca M. Aragon as a shareholder in its Los Angeles office. Ms. Aragon, formerly chair of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Venable LLP in Los Angeles, brings more than 20 years of legal experience and will divide her time between the firm’s downtown and Century City offices.
“Rebecca is quite a talent and we are excited to have her on board,” said Robert Blumberg, office managing shareholder of both of Littler’s Los Angeles offices. “Her vast legal experience, ties to the Southern California business community and extensive representation working with businesses with large Spanish-speaking workforces, further enhances our abilities in the region and will serve our current and future clients well. Rebecca, who will spend substantial time in the downtown Los Angeles office, is the first significant hire since we opened our downtown office earlier this year. We are confident that is the initial step towards attracting high level attorneys to further expand this location.”
“I have long admired the work of Littler and look forward to being a part of a firm with a platform focused solely on labor and employment law,” added Ms. Aragon. “I am certain my background combined with the firm’s deep resources will be instrumental in expanding Littler’s presence both regionally and nationally.”
Representing corporations in labor and employment litigation matters, Ms. Aragon focuses her practice on the defense of class, collective, multi-plaintiff and hybrid wage and hour actions. She has a proven track record of helping national and California-based clients navigate the intricacies of federal labor law and California’s complex Labor Code to achieve favorable outcomes in a variety of claims ranging from misclassification to unfair competition. Her employment litigation experience also extends to defending clients against employee claims of wrongful termination, sexual harassment, retaliation, whistleblowing, breach of contract, invasion of privacy, misrepresentation, defamation, and discrimination.
In addition to serving as litigation counsel, Ms. Aragon advises clients on compliance issues in every aspect of labor and employment law, and also counsels clients on federal and state law compliance with the Americans with Disabilities and the Family and Medical Leave Acts. She has used alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, such as neutral evaluations, direct negotiations, mediations and court-ordered settlement conferences to secure favorable decisions.
Ms. Aragon also represents companies employing large Spanish-speaking workforces and has provided Spanish-language services to employers in connection with union avoidance matters, anti-harassment and sexual harassment prevention, wage and hour issues and internal investigations.
Active in the legal and business communities, Ms. Aragon serves as a board member of the Mexican American Bar Foundation and the Latina Lawyers Bar Association. She is a member of the Hispanic National Bar Association, as well as the Labor and Employment Law and Litigation Sections of the California State Bar.
Ms. Aragon received her J.D. from Georgetown University and her B.A. from Yale University.
