SAN FRANCISCO, CA (August 5, 2014) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has been named one of the 2014 “50 Best Law Firms for Women” by Working Mother Media and Flex-Time Lawyers LLC, marking the firm’s sixth appearance on the annual list. The Best Law Firms for Women initiative recognizes U.S. law firms that lead the industry in creating and using best practices in retaining and promoting female lawyers.
“We are proud to once again be included among the 50 Best Law Firms for Women,” said Tom Bender and Jeremy Roth, co-managing directors of Littler. “Over the past year, the firm has continued to make great strides in advancing our women lawyers to positions of leadership and influence. We remain deeply committed to cultivating a supportive working environment that not only attracts and retains talented female attorneys, but encourages their success.”
To be eligible for the list, firms must have 50 or more U.S. lawyers. Firms are ranked based on workforce representation; time off and leave policies; child care and flexibility; leadership, compensation and the advancement, development and retention of women. The Working Mother Research Institute evaluates the information and determines the winners based on benchmark results from the previous year’s survey.
“It is an honor to be recognized for the firm’s women’s initiatives,” said Linda Headley and Dionysia Johnson-Massie, shareholders and co-chairs of the firm’s Women’s Leadership Initiative (WLI). “We see firsthand the immense benefits our female attorneys receive from being part of a firm that truly prioritizes their professional success.”
Littler has remained a trailblazer in the legal industry for its women-friendly programs. The firm’s WLI works to support and retain women in leadership positions by providing them with the resources needed to achieve their goals; Littler’s Flex Time Attorney program and other remote work options help attorneys with work-life balance; and the firm’s mentorship, training and professional development programs work to promote the retention and success of Littler’s female lawyers.
As a result of Littler’s initiatives for female attorneys, women continue to advance to top positions within the firm. This past year, Littler elected Lisa “Lee” Schreter chairperson of the firm’s Board of Directors and Shareholders Marguerite Walsh and Jennifer Youpa were named executive vice presidents. Additionally, Littler has received a number of other accolades from industry organizations and the media for its women’s programs:
- Ranked #2 for Diversity for Women by Vault for 2015
- Two Littler attorneys included in Lawyers of Color’s “Hot List” in 2014
