Littler Mendelson Shareholder Receives National Honor

GJ Stillson MacDonnell elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation

SAN FRANCISCO (October 3, 2006) -- GJ Stillson MacDonnell, shareholder in the San Francisco office of Littler Mendelson, has been elected a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in recognition of her leadership in the legal profession. The American Bar Foundation was founded in 1952 by the American Bar Association and is now recognized as the premier sociolegal research institute in the country. The Fellows is the preeminent lawyers group in the country, and is an honorary organization of attorneys, judges and law professors whose professional, public and private careers have demonstrated outstanding dedication to the welfare of their communities and to the highest principles of the legal profession. Membership is limited to one third of one percent of the lawyers in each state. The Fellows encourage and support the research program of the American Bar Foundation. The object of the Foundation is to advance justice through research on law, legal institutions, and legal processes.

Ms. MacDonnell is the chair of Littler's Employment Taxes Practice Group, the only such law firm practice group in the country. She is author of numerous articles on employment tax and benefits issues and most recently served the American Bar Association as Chair of the Tax Section's Employment Taxes Committee. In 1998, Ms. MacDonnell received the Award of Merit from the Bar Association of San Francisco for her pro bono activities. For over 15 years, she was a volunteer attorney for the San Francisco AIDS Legal Referral Panel. Ms. MacDonnell received her J.D. from the University of Connecticut Law School, with honors, in 1973.
