San Francisco, CA/ July 12, 2007 -- The recent announcement of the attorneys chosen to serve three-year terms on the CA State Bar's Board of Governors included Patricia White, shareholder in Littler Mendelson's San Jose office.
Only 5 new members were elected to the board, the governing and policymaking body of the more than 210,000-member organization. Patricia White received 2,208 votes to win the race for the board's District 3, which encompasses Alameda, Contra Costa, San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Her opponent, Stephen Sonaty, a lawyer and mediator in Walnut Creek, got 655 votes.
Founded in 1927 by the state legislature, the State Bar of California is an administrative arm of the California Supreme Court, serving the public and seeking to improve the justice system for more than 75 years. All lawyers practicing law in California must be members of the State Bar. White will be sworn in at the bar's annual meeting to be held September 29 in Anaheim.
White, former president of the Santa Clara County Bar Association, has practiced law for almost 30 years. As shareholder with Littler Mendelson, P.C., she has not only held a thriving practice in the nation's largest employment and labor law firm, but she has also been active in a significant number of bar organizations and community associations. She said she is particularly interested in encouraging diversity in the bar and in reaching out to minority high school and college students who may be interested in pursuing legal careers. Additionally, White is interested in encouraging local bar associations to adopt a civility initiative proposed by State Bar President Sheldon Sloan.
