(January 28, 2021) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, received a perfect rating of 100% for the 13th consecutive year in the 2021 Corporate Equality Index (CEI). Directed by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRC), the index is a nationwide benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices linked to LGBTQ+ workplace equality.
“We are proud to once again be recognized by the HRC for our ongoing efforts in advancing LGBTQ+ initiatives in the workplace,” said Erin Webber, managing director of Littler. “While, inclusion, equity and diversity have been cornerstones of our firm since its inception, we know that we can always improve and embark upon efforts to continue to move the needle. We remain laser focused on ensuring that we continue to create a culture of belonging so that all of our employees can bring their whole and authentic selves to work every day.”
Littler’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria resulted in a 100% ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality. The 2021 CEI evaluates firms and companies on detailed criteria in the following categories: nondiscrimination policies, employment benefits, supporting an inclusive culture and corporate social responsibility, including public commitment to LGBTQ+ equality, and responsible citizenship. The firm joins the ranks of 1,142 major U.S. businesses, which also earned top marks this year.
“From the previously unimaginable impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, to a long overdue reckoning with racial injustice, 2020 was an unprecedented year. Yet, many businesses across the nation stepped up and continued to prioritize and champion LGBTQ+ equality,” said Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign President. “This year has shown us that tools like the CEI are crucial in the work to increase equity and inclusion in the workplace, but also that companies must breathe life into these policies and practices in real and tangible ways. Thank you to the companies that understand protecting their LGBTQ+ employees and consumers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do—but the best business decision.”
To encourage professional growth, Littler’s Pride affinity group, led by Shareholders Darren Gibson and Lauren Schwartzreich, gives the firm’s LGBTQ+ employees and their allies a platform for networking and engaging with the LGBTQ+ community. The issue of allyship has been a key issue of focus within Littler and Pride. Last year, in response to the racially motivated tragedies, Pride developed a video promoting the importance of allies to communities that have traditionally experienced oppression and marginalization. You can view that video here.
Additionally, members of the firm hold leadership roles within Out Leadership and other organizations that focus on advancing opportunities for the LGBTQ+ community. Littler also has a number of programs designed to retain and promote a diverse workforce, including Breaking Through, Career Advocacy Program, Investment for Success Program and other meaningful initiatives. The firm continues to set the standard for diversity and inclusion in the industry as it earns recognition for its policies, practices and programs.
