H-1B demand this year will be fast, furious

In an article on the heavy demand expected as the U.S. begins accepting new H-1B visa petitions, Littler’s Ian Macdonald notes that the high number of petitions may cause the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service to hold a lottery to distribute visas. Macdonald also noted that the demand for H-1Bs is a strong indicator that the economy is improving, but the lottery system may result in casualties for the companies that don't get the highly skilled workers they need.
