Littler is proud of its ongoing commitment to pro bono work, and the firm’s pro bono program reflects our dedication to making a positive impact in our communities and beyond. To support its commitment to pro bono work, the firm credits attorneys with 100% billable hours credit for up to 100 pro bono hours worked each year, and additional hours, if approved.

Our attorneys donate thousands of hours annually to pro bono matters, working with nonprofit community organizations across the country and joining other efforts to help those in the greatest need to access legal services.

The firm is passionate about giving back and our attorneys are actively involved in a variety of pro bono initiatives, volunteering their time at a wide variety of nonprofit organizations and bar associations, as well as serving on the boards of bar association pro bono committees. The firm is also part of several pro bono partnerships that allow us to expand our reach and assist with significant projects on a national and even global scale. Attorneys at the firm also engage regularly at the local level, sometimes on matters that do not garner broad attention but are vital to the affected individuals our attorneys volunteer to help.

Following is a snapshot of various organizations with which the firm has partnered on pro bono activities:

  • Law Firm Antiracism Alliance (LFAA), an international coalition of more than 200 law firms working together to identify and change laws and policies that negatively impact communities of color.
  • The Veterans Consortium (TVC), Littler has partnered with Amazon to collaborate on pro bono matters concerning discharge upgrade matters. TVC’s Discharge Upgrade Program provides nationwide free legal representation to veterans who received a discharge (“Other Than Honorable”) with a resulting loss or reduction in benefits. Many of these are due to conduct related to PTSD, traumatic brain injury, “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” anti-LGBTQ policies and other mitigating factors.
  • The National Homelessness Law Center (NHLC), dedicated to using the power of the law to end and prevent homelessness and to protect the rights of people who are experiencing homelessness.
  • Legal Services for Children (LSC), a nonprofit legal services and social work provider that offers free legal advocacy, social-emotional support, information, advice and referrals to low-income children and youth in the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • The Florence Immigrant & Refugee Rights Project, a nonprofit that provides free legal services, social services and advocacy to immigrants facing detention and potential deportation.
  • Pennsylvania Innocence Project, dedicated to exonerating the wrongfully convicted in Pennsylvania, with a focus on providing support, education, and advocating for legislative reforms.
  • Election Protection, a national, nonpartisan coalition that works year-round to protect, advance and defend the right to vote.
  • The Rocky Mountain Immigrant Advocacy Network (RMIAN) provides free immigration, legal and social services to immigrant children and adults in immigration detention.
  • The Decarceration Initiative through the Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland works to reduce mass incarceration in Maryland by providing representation for people who are eligible to file motions to reduce their sentences under the Juvenile Restoration Act (JRA).
  • Pro Bono Partnership offers business and transactional legal services to nonprofit organizations serving the disadvantaged or enhancing the quality of life in neighborhoods in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York.
  • The National Immigrant Justice Center (NIJC) blends direct legal services, impact litigation and policy advocacy to defend access to justice for immigrants while fighting to transform the U.S. immigration system into one that upholds human rights.

The many hours of service that Littler attorneys have dedicated to various charitable and legal organizations have been acknowledged and appreciated with a number of client and industry awards.
