
For more than 35 years, Joseph E. Field has represented various businesses in the defense of employment litigation claims at both the trial and appellate levels, before federal and state courts and administrative agencies. His experience covers a wide range of discrimination-based claims under federal and state laws, non-solicitation and non-disclosure agreements, and various contract and tort common law claims.
Prior to joining Littler Mendelson, Joseph worked at both small and large law firms gaining substantial experience in commercial litigation. In law school, he was associate editor of the Hofstra Law Review.
Selected Matters
- Obtained complete defense verdict and ruling in favor of client’s counterclaim at a jury trial for a business defending wage and hour claims by former employee
- Obtained summary judgment for hospital facing claims of race discrimination and retaliation which was affirmed by the Court of Appeal for the Second Circuit
- Successfully defended client accused of sexual orientation discrimination during an administrative trial held before the New York State Division of Human Rights
- Successfully defended investment advisor in an arbitration before the AAA alleging breach of contract and wrongful solicitation, including recovery of more than $675,000 for the client’s legal fees and costs
- Obtained summary judgment for client in both federal court and subsequent state court actions brought by employee alleging disability and failure to accommodate claims
- Obtained summary judgment for municipality dismissing all claims by former employee alleging national origin discrimination and retaliation claims
- Obtained dismissal of proceeding against Fire Department facing a probationary firefighter’s challenges to his termination. The ruling was upheld on appeal by New York’s Appellate Division, Second Department
