ERISA Pro Angel Garrett Joins Littler in San Francisco

SAN FRANCISCO (January 16, 2025) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, today announced the addition of Angel L. Garrett as a Shareholder in its San Francisco office. Garrett, who joins the firm from Trucker Huss, focuses her practice on employee benefits and Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA) litigation.

“With significant changes to retirement policy and fiduciary regulations expected in 2025, Angel’s in-demand skill set expands our team’s impressive capabilities in this crucial area,” said Erin Webber, Littler’s managing director and president. “Littler has a unique and talented ERISA and Benefit Plan Litigation Practice Group and we know her background in this area will bring added value as we continue to support our clients navigating today’s constantly evolving employment law landscape in California and beyond.”

Garrett counsels a wide range of clients, from Fortune 500 companies to small family-owned companies to non-profit organizations, on a variety of employee benefits and ERISA matters and handles class action and single-plaintiff cases involving fiduciary issues, management and recordkeeping fees, employee stock valuation, actuarial valuations, investment of plan assets, and benefit claims. Her extensive experience includes representing plan fiduciaries and employers in litigation involving all types of retirement plans, including 401(k) and 403(b) plans, multiemployer plans, church and governmental plans, employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs), executive compensation plans, and health and welfare plans. Garrett manages cases through all phases of litigation in federal and state courts, as well as in front of administrative agencies and arbitrations.

“Angel’s nearly two decades of experience handling complex ERISA and employee benefits issues makes her an invaluable resource for our clients,” said Constance Norton, Littler’s San Francisco office managing shareholder. “For today’s employers, competitive and legally sound employee benefits plans are crucial for attracting and retaining talent, and Angel is well positioned to help mitigate any associated legal risks.”

In addition to her litigation practice, Garrett advises clients on compliance issues related to fiduciary responsibility, prohibited transactions, qualified domestic relations orders, and benefit claims. She also represents clients in investigations by the Department of Labor, and helps prepare and implement policies to correct violations and draft and negotiate settlements.

“I’m thrilled to join Littler’s leading global platform of labor and employment attorneys,” said Garrett. “The firm’s exceptionally strong bench of ERISA attorneys, combined with its robust network of legal professionals spanning nearly all facets of labor and employment law, will greatly bolster my ability to deliver first-rate counsel to my clients.”

Littler’s ERISA and Benefit Plan Litigation practice comprises attorneys with extensive experience in all types of cases—from individual claims for disability benefits to complex class actions. Littler’s group of litigators handles the full gamut of employee benefits disputes in nearly every circuit and has represented plan sponsors, fiduciaries, and service-providers before courts in all jurisdictions, including the United States Supreme Court.

Garrett earned a J.D., cum laude, from the University of Illinois College of Law and a B.S. in business and B.A. in legal studies from the University of California, Berkeley. She serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Justice and Diversity Center of the Bar Association of San Francisco and Queen’s Bench and as the Vice President of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area. She is also the chair of the ABA Tort, Trial, and Insurance Practice Section (TIPS), Employee Benefits Committee and the co-chair of the ABA Tax Section, Employee Benefits Litigation Committee.
