With the proposed EU AI Act and intense attention from regulators, the EU is at the forefront in developing laws and regulations for artificial intelligence, especially in the workplace. These developments almost certainly will set standards around the world. First, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), along with discrimination and labor laws, provides a baseline set of considerations for employers when adopting AI in the EU. Now, the EU is working on finalizing its EU AI Act. This Act builds on existing law and would include substantial new obligations for employers. Meanwhile, regulators have weighed in with guidance on a range of issues.
Attendees will come away with an understanding of what laws currently apply in the EU, as well as what changes to expect, and practical considerations for rolling out AI programs in the world’s second largest economy.
