SAN DIEGO (August 28, 2023) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has added Mattheus Stephens as a shareholder in its San Diego office. Stephens joins from Schor Vogelzang & Chung LLP and brings more than 30 years of trial and litigation experience.
“Matt’s addition deepens our litigation bench in San Diego and further strengthens our ability to guide clients through the challenging employment litigation landscape in California,” said Erin Webber, Littler’s managing director and president. “Matt has developed a versatile skillset through his decades of experience navigating the state’s court system and we are thrilled to add him to our team.”
Stephens focuses his practice on helping clients navigate the lifecycle of employment litigation with a focus on defending against claims of discrimination, particularly those relating to gender and disability. He also counsels clients on wage and hour matters, conducts workplace investigations, and provides trainings on preventing discrimination and harassment, including gender and LGBTQ+ training.
“Matt has a well-earned reputation as a leading trial attorney in San Diego,” said Al McLaughlin, Littler’s regional office managing shareholder for the San Diego office. “He has deep roots in the local community and has established himself as a trusted advisor to employers that conduct business in the city and across the state.”
Stephens is also active in the local legal community, serving as a continuing lecturer at the University of California San Diego and as a Judge Pro Tem for the San Diego Superior Court.

Stephens earned his J.D. from Rutgers University School of Law, Camden and his B.A., cum laude, from the College of New Rochelle. He is actively involved in community service work and has received several awards recognizing his successful legal practice and service to the community. His professional associations include serving as a founding member and former co-president of the Tom Homann Law Association, San Diego’s gay, lesbian and bisexual bar association, and as a former chair of the City of San Diego’s Civil Service Commission as well as the City’s Human Relations Commission.
