Mexico Increases the General Minimum Wage, Effective as of December 1, 2017
New Order or Decree
Author: Mónica Schiaffino, Shareholder — Littler Mexico, S.C.
As of December 1, 2017, Mexico’s new minimum salary is $88.36 Mexican Pesos per day. The new minimum wage combines two separate increases. The first increase, consisting of $5.00 Mexican Pesos per day, was designated as an “independent recuperation amount” (“monto independiente de recuperación”) to strengthen employees’ purchasing power. The second increase, consisting of 3.9%, represents the rate that is typically approved for annual wage increases, except that it became effective December 1, 2017. Employers should review and adjust their payroll practices to comply with this new increase to the minimum wage.
