Sarah Armstrong Coats is Class Action Special Counsel and is based in Michigan. As Team Lead for the Class Action Case Evaluation team, Sarah assists in the hiring and training of new Case Evaluation Counsel, as well as the ongoing management and supervision of the Case Evaluation team. She also helped develop best practices and processes in class, collective, representative, and mass arbitration fact investigation and case assessment. Sarah is responsible for partnering with trial teams to conduct the fact and legal investigation and exposure assessment for class, collective, and representative actions, including PAGA matters. Sarah prepares a full evaluation of the case based on the needs of the client and trial team. The assessment includes an analysis of the client’s wage and hour and/or other employment policies and practices, fact witness interviews, and an evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of the client’s case, including opportunities for remediation. She also partners with data analysts to conduct damages modeling and exposure assessments. Sarah drafts answers and evaluates matters for potential removal to federal court, and because of her knowledge of the factual and legal issues of the matter, remains involved in the litigation through opposition to class certification and settlement.
Prior to joining Littler, Sarah was an associate at two multinational law firms, gaining extensive experience in California employment matters. She has significant experience in all aspects of litigation, from initial case strategy through trial. Sarah also performed research and writing for a leading online legal knowledge company.
After law school, Sarah clerked for the Hon. Juan R. Torruella on the First Circuit Court of Appeals. She was an editor for the UCLA Law Review.
