The Canadian federal government has announced that recreational marijuana will be legalized nationwide by 2018. With the upcoming legalization, employers will need to navigate an ever-increasing complex web of obligations. This session will review the challenges employers may face as a result of legalization, employers’ obligations with respect to accommodating medical marijuana, and the extent to which employers may implement drug testing in order to ensure a healthy and safe workplace. This session will also briefly address the recently announced ban in British Columbia on requiring high heels in the workplace, possibly a sign of a new trend in workplace regulation. ​
