Conducting Lawful Investigations: An Interactive Program for Internal Investigators
Tuesday, November 24, 2015
- 8:00 AM - 12:30 PM EST
The Ritz Carlton
181 Wellington Street West
Toronto, ON M5V 3G7
Conducting effective internal investigations of workplace misconduct requires not only analytical expertise and knowledge of the law, but also the ability to gather facts in an efficient and fair manner and to articulate findings objectively. Through this hands-on, interactive workshop, you will learn the art of the investigation process and new techniques for conducting a lawful and effective investigation. Topics include best practices that work and common practices that do not. The speakers will also discuss in detail a list of common pitfalls. Participants will be actively engaged in using their newly acquired investigative techniques and will have the opportunity to practice them during this session.
This workshop will provide the skills necessary to conduct effective internal investigations that produce objective results and withstand scrutiny in subsequent litigation. Using a comprehensive hands on approach, participants build "real life" skills by learning how to:
- Take a complaint
- Develop an investigation plan
- Interview witnesses
- Reach a conclusion
- Next steps—using the information and liaising with legal counsel
Working through a case study culled from actual litigation, participants will practice all of these skills with the aid and guidance of attorney-facilitators.
Registration and Breakfast: 8:00 - 8:30 am
Program: 8:30 am - 12:30 pm
