The Patriotic Employer: Veterans Rights and Employer Obligations
Wednesday, July 11
- 7:00 AM PDT
You remembered them on Memorial Day, and celebrated them on the Fourth of July. Now join us on Wednesday, July 11th for a Breakfast Briefing to learn about hiring and employing veterans. Nearly 40,000 U.S. troops returned home at the beginning of this year. In addition, commentators expect that there will be a potential troop draw down in Afghanistan. Employers must be mindful of their responsibilities to the returning troops under the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act of 1994 (USERRA) and other legislation. USERRA, among other things, outlines the rights and obligations of employers and employees regarding an employee's leave from employment to undertake military service. USERRA applies to all U.S. employers, public or private.
This program will highlight the key considerations for U.S. employers regarding their USERRA and other obligations. Some of the key topics to be addressed include:
- USERRA's coverage thresholds
- USERRA's reinstatement provisions
- A practical perspective on addressing reinstatement requests and meeting reinstatement obligations
- Insights regarding which states have additional military leave requirements
- The Family and Medical Leave Act
- The VETS-100 program
