(June 21, 2018) – Littler, the world’s largest employment and labor law practice representing management, has received the prestigious Allstate General Counsel’s Excellence in Diversity Award, which recognizes the law firm that best exemplifies Allstate’s commitment to improving diversity in the legal profession. This is the second time Allstate has recognized a partnering law firm with the award.
“We are honored to be recognized by Allstate, a company that shares our philosophy and deep commitment to diversity and inclusion,” said Tom Bender and Jeremy Roth, co-managing directors of Littler. “For more than 75 years, we have fostered a culture where people of all backgrounds belong, grow and succeed. We believe that individuals with different life experiences and backgrounds offer distinct and unique points of view and it is our ongoing goal to ensure that we have a diverse mix of attorneys and staff at every level of the firm. We thank Allstate for this award, which reflects our continued pledge to setting the industry standard for diversity and inclusion.”
Firms in Allstate’s Premier Law Firm Program are eligible to receive the award. The program consists of a select group of law firms chosen by Allstate’s Law and Regulation Department to be the primary providers of legal services for Allstate corporate matters.
Littler was selected by Allstate based on evaluation of its Inclusive Diversity Scorecard, an assessment of outside counsels based on an annual review of recruiting and retention trends, career advancement of women and other diverse attorneys, staffing of Allstate matters with diverse attorneys, and pipeline efforts to increase diversity.
“Littler excels in hiring, promoting and developing diverse attorneys and offering them opportunities to serve on key committees within the firm,” said Susie Lees, Allstate’s general counsel. “Allstate values the breadth and depth of the backgrounds, views and experiences the individuals from our Premier Law Firms bring to our working relationships. I would like to extend my personal thanks to all of our partners for their commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession.”
Littler demonstrated excellence in key areas, which have increased an already inclusive workplace for all employees, including women, minorities and those who identify as LGBTQ. The firm’s commitment at the highest levels of leadership has enabled successful programming in all areas of diversity and inclusion, from pipeline development to mentorship to recruitment and retention efforts.
Over the past year, Littler has earned several other notable awards for its advanced diversity initiatives and inclusive culture. Recently, the firm was ranked number one on the Best Law Firms for Women list by Law360 in its Glass Ceiling Report, and The American Lawyer named Littler to its Diversity Scorecard. Additionally, Littler was named a 2018 Top Ten Female Friendly Firm by Yale Law Women, certified as a "Gold Standard Firm" by the Women in Law Empowerment Forum, and ranked a top law firm by Working Mother magazine and Vault.
