Misclassification of independent contractors remains a risk for retailers. Why? Because some individuals involved in hiring workers classified as contractors may not recognize the risks and may not understand the factors that impact contractor versus employee status. There is also a perception in the industry that certain types of workers should always be classified as contractors, even when a retailer may be better off classifying those workers as employees instead.
