Multinational employers are increasingly seeking to leverage highly sophisticated, cloud-based solutions to manage their global workforce. While these human resources information system (HRIS) databases permit centralized management of a global workforce, they also raise complex legal challenges. More than 70 countries worldwide now regulate the processing of employees’ personal data, and most of these countries generally prohibit the transfer of this data to third countries unless steps are taken to protect employees’ data protection rights. The EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation, effective May 25, 2018, will introduce stricter data protection rules, including mandatory security breach notification, that likely will set the new standard for data protection globally.

This Executive Roundtable Luncheon will explain the key new provisions of the GDPR for U.S. multinational employers and provide practical recommendations for addressing GDPR and other data protection laws, especially when centralizing employee data globally in a single HRIS.
