Both the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and the City of Pittsburgh’s new Paid Sick Leave Ordinance are seemingly simple laws that, in practice, can create pitfalls for employers that want to comply.  This program will help you to steer clear of some common mistakes.

The FMLA and its detailed regulations present countless opportunities for employers to make mistakes that can lead to liability - policy drafting errors, overbroad medical inquiries, leave tracking missteps and the tendency to "outsource and forget it," to name just a few.  Our presenters will discuss 15 common FMLA blunders – including several that we have seen the Department of Labor seize upon in recent investigations – and how they can be avoided.

The City of Pittsburgh will be requiring private employers to provide paid sick leave to virtually all employees who work in the City.  Our speakers will provide an overview of the requirements of this new ordinance and give you a roadmap for ensuring that you comply.
