Accommodating employees’ physical disabilities under the ADA is sometimes challenging, but “hidden” or “invisible” disabilities can often raise even more perplexing dilemmas, such as whether to discipline if there are performance problems and a mental disability; whether to refer an employee to an EAP; and whether to permit an employee to involve a lawyer or union representative directly in the interactive dialogue. To tackle these and a host of other gray areas, our panelists will present a real life, complex example that addresses these issues with practical advice.

New York’s Paid Family Leave Benefits Law, which takes effect on January 1, 2018, will implement the most progressive paid family leave entitlement of any state and will affect all employers with employees in the state, regardless of size. Our panelists will discuss the nuts and bolts of New York’s Paid Family Leave Law, including steps employers should take to implement the requirements of the law, key issues and concerns employers should be aware of, and frequently asked questions.
