Employment Challenges in the Post-Pandemic Age of Substance Abuse

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, rates of substance abuse were climbing. These rates increased dramatically after the start of the pandemic. Studies show that one-third of Americans reported increased alcohol consumption since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, and 29% of drug users reported increase in drug use during the same period. This interactive presentation will address these challenges including how to handle suspected impairment in the workplace. The presentation also will provide practical advice on mitigating the risk of disability discrimination claims and managing FMLA leave and the Pennsylvania Medical Marijuana Act.
