HR’s Role In Enhancing Data Stewardship to Protect The Organization’s Information Assets

Study after study and recent, highly publicized data security breaches demonstrate that negligent and malicious insiders – employees, contractors and other business partners – are the number one threat to an organization’s information assets. This “insider threat” is as much a “people problem” as it is an IT problem. In this presentation, the speakers will provide recommendations for identifying, responding to and preventing insider risks through enhanced training, policies, process and technology. You will learn how to:

  • Initiate a culture of data stewardship within your organization that recognizes the risks of the insider threat
  • Develop or enhance employee training on information security
  • Implement strong workplace monitoring technology such as data loss prevention and processes to detect suspicious activity without violating employees’ privacy rights
  • Bring in-house counsel, HR professionals, and information security personnel together to build a culture that addresses information security risks
  • Strengthen the culture so it touches every stage of the employment life cycle, breaks down silos within your organization and secures the data assets you are trusted to protect

Philip Gordon, co-chair of Littler's Privacy & Background Checks Practice Group, and Gary Clayton, shareholder in Littler’s Dallas office with extensive experience and comprehensive subject knowledge in privacy and information security issues, will lead this presentation.
