Littler Receives Top Honors From the International Legal Technology Association

Littler CaseSmart® Wins Project of the Year and Scott Rechtschaffen Named 2011 KM Champion

SAN FRANCISCO (September 12, 2011) – Littler Mendelson, P.C. (Littler), the nation’s largest employment and labor law firm representing management, has earned top honors from the International Legal Technology Association’s (ILTA) second annual Distinguished Peer Awards. The Littler CaseSmart® program received the 2011 Project of the Year award, while the firm’s Chief Knowledge Officer, Scott Rechtschaffen, was named the 2011 Knowledge Management (KM) Champion for his outstanding achievements in developing and implementing exceptional technology projects.  ILTA’s awards program recognizes premiership and provides a forum for peer-nominated, peer-judged innovations in technology. Additionally, the firm’s Director of Knowledge Technology, Ayelette Robinson, was selected among three finalists in the ILTA City Representative category.

“We are particularly proud to be recognized by ILTA for our innovation in the legal technology arena,” said Marko Mrkonich, president and managing director of Littler. “Littler CaseSmart re-engineers the way in which matters are handled and is indicative of our firm’s commitment to helping clients reduce costs by transforming the way we deliver legal services. Additionally, we congratulate Scott on being named the 2011 KM Champion. His contributions to the Littler CaseSmart program and ongoing efforts to integrate core knowledge with new technologies have enabled both our attorneys and clients to access the collective expertise and experience of the firm’s more than 850 attorneys.”

Littler CaseSmart was developed in response to the shifting legal landscape and to meet the economic needs of the firm’s clients. The program maximizes the use of technology, alternative staffing models and transparent client communication and information access in order to enhance efficiency and the quality of the firm’s work product, while increasing firm revenue and profitability. It also provides clients with an unprecedented level of actionable intelligence about its pending legal matters and its own compliance matters.

“On behalf of ILTA, I’d like to congratulate this year’s Distinguished Peer Award winners,” said Randi Mayes, executive director of ILTA. “We are proud to recognize these exceptional technology projects and the champions of those projects, and I applaud and celebrate our winners for sharing their successes.”

As Littler’s Chief Knowledge Management Officer, Rechtschaffen leads the firm’s effort to provide innovative services and has successfully interwoven knowledge management with business. In addition to being an instrumental member of the Littler CaseSmart team, Rechtschaffen has spearheaded the development and implementation of a number of highly-successful KM projects and consistently leverages his keen understanding of law firm business and legal practice to deliver innovative, cost-effective, high-quality knowledge management solutions, both for internal and client-facing use.  As a founding member, Rechtschaffen has helped grow the firm’s KM department – consisting of more than 25 dedicated KM attorneys, technologists, legal research specialists and content administrators – to become the largest of any U.S. law firm.
